Jody was born in 1972 in Reynolds, Georgia. He grew up in Reynolds and graduated from Taylor County High School. Following graduation he attended Georgia College in Milledgeville and he is a graduate of the Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta.

Jody is married to the former Angela Morton of Kathleen, Georgia, and they have two beautiful daughters, Jordan Abigail and Anabelle Macy. He and his family are members of Second Baptist Church in Warner Robins. Jody is dedicated to the community through his involvement in various civic organizations as well as his involvement in his church. In his spare time Jody enjoys hunting, fishing, Georgia Bulldog football, and spending time with his family.

Jody has twenty-three years of dedicated experience in the funeral service. During college he spent a summer working at Goddard Funeral Home in Reynolds. It was at this time that he decided to become a funeral director and enrolled in mortuary school. He chose this profession as a result of his love for people and being able to minister to the community.

After graduation from Gupton-Jones, he served his apprenticeship under Jimmy McCullough. He went on to become the manager of  three funeral homes: Goddard Funeral Homes in Reynolds & Roberta, and Edwards Funeral Home in Butler, Georgia.  It was while simultaneously managing these funeral homes that he was offered the position of manager at another local funeral home. Jody has spent almost all of his twenty three year career here in Houston County.

It has always been a dream of Jody's to own and operate his own funeral home, and that dream is now a reality. Jody considers funeral service a ministry in which he is honored and fortunate to serve.

Tim Burpee, Owner

Tim Burpee was born on March 10, 1958 in Atlanta, Georgia.  When he was 15, he moved to Mansfield, Georgia where he graduated from Newton County High School.  After high school, Tim felt God’s call in his life and he began his studies for the ministry.  In 1981, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Christianity at Luther Rice Bible College in Jacksonville, Florida.  In 1985, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Mercer University, Macon, Georgia, and in 1992 he received his Master of Divinity at Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C.

In 1982, Tim was called to serve as Associate Pastor and Youth Minister at Westside Baptist Church in Warner Robins.  Tim served at Westside until 1989 when he left to attend seminary.  During his time at Westside, Tim met and married his wife of 32 years, Keri Clement Burpee.  Tim and Keri have four children.  Timothy Luke, who currently works for King and Spaulding Law firm in Atlanta; Kadie who is a Nurse Practitioner; Zach who currently attends college in Habersham County pursuing dual degrees in Public Relations and Counseling and is also a graduate of Ogeechee Technical College where he earned his degree in Mortuary Science, and Andrew who is a sophomore at Habersham Central.

Tim’s heart has always been for people.  He served as a minister for twenty-five years.  In 2007, he left the full time pastorate in order to fulfill a dream of reaching children for God.   This was accomplished through the building of Foundation Academy in Habersham County, a Christian daycare where children are taught the word of God.  In 2010, a second Foundation Academy was established in Warner Robins, and in 2012, a third Foundation Academy was built, also in Warner Robins.  Tim worked in a funeral home while attending Luther Rice Bible College.  He had always felt drawn to minister to those who had suffered a great loss in their lives.  Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory of Houston County was created to minister and serve the people of Houston County and the surrounding counties.

Jim Moore, Funeral Attendant

Our dear friend and coworker, Mr. Jim Moore, passed away early Saturday morning, August 29, 2015. Recently diagnosed with a terminal illness, he fought with the courage and bravery so many of us saw in him on a daily basis. Mr. Moore had been in the funeral business for over a decade and we are so grateful he joined our Burpee-Scott Funeral Home family as an employee and friend. Our families that had the chance to meet with Jim will remember his big smile, helpful nature, and the passion he brought to the families we serve. He was devoted to Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel Funeral Home as we were blessed to have him with us. Although we find comfort in God’s promise that we will see him again, our hearts are heavy and we will miss “Big Jim” (as we affectionately called him). Jim joins his bride, Florence Johnson Moore, his parents, and many other friends in Heaven. Please keep Jim’s dear children and the rest of his family and friends in your prayers.

Jim was born on September 24, 1939 in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Henry J. and Gertrude Moore. Strong in his faith, he was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church of Warner Robins. With pride and honor, Jim served his country in the United States Navy. After his Navy career, he taught Aircraft Mechanics at local colleges. He and his wife Florence were the original co-owners of PoMo's BBQ and together they also owned Corral Classic Daycare. Jim retired from Zantop Airlines where he dedicated many years of faithful employment as an Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic and Supervisor. Jim was a loving, caring man of strong integrity, with a heart of gold. Post retirement, he utilized those attributes in the funeral industry for over a decade and was most recently employed as a Funeral Attendant at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Jim’s absence on earth will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him. He loved to make others laugh and enjoyed storytelling. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, attending church, and especially loved spending time with his loving family, doting grandchildren, and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his beloved bride, Florence Johnson Moore.

His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Leah Rowe (Ricky), Valdosta; Jeff Moore (Tracy), Milledgeville; Chuck Moore (SaBess), Calhoun; Keith Moore (Heidi), Kathleen; brother, Larry Moore, Valdosta; brother and sister in law, Warren and Glenda Johnson, Perry; 12 grandchildren, and so many other loving family members and friends.
